AT&T appoints chief strategy officer

AT&T has appointed its first chief strategy officer to develop the company’s road map, including long-term mobile capacity needs, the company announced Monday.

John Stankey, who also takes the title group president, has led nearly every major AT&T business unit during his 27-year career, the company said. It was one of four executive changes that were announced.

Ralph de la Vega was named president and CEO of AT&T mobility. He previously was president and CEO of AT&T mobility and consumer markets. De la Vega will focus on AT&T’s mobile markets, including smartphone services, the company’s strongest growth area.

Also on Monday, Andy Geisse was named senior executive vice president for AT&T’s business and home solutions. Geisse, an executive with 32 years in AT&T’s business and consumer segments, will be responsible for serving business customers and for U-verse broadband and voice service for residential customers.

AT&T also named John Donovan senior executive vice president for AT&T technology and network operations, including its mobile broadband network. Donovan was formerly CTO at AT&T.

All four men will report to AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson.
