Turn your iPad into an Apple II with the iStation Dock

If you’re a fan of retro merchandise and old Apple products, you may want to check out MIC Gadget’s new iStation iPad dock and stand, which is designed to look like the original Apple I/Apple II computer.
Apple’s original computers were designed and produced back in 1976, so there is nothing sleek or slim about MIC Gadget’s iStation. It’s bulky and boxy just like the real thing, but there have been a few modern modifications that make this a great all-in-one stand.
The iStation is constructed from high density plywood, which comes in a faux woodgrain   or glossy pearl finish. Its built-in keyboard comes in white or black, respectively, and while the woodgrain stand isn’t exactly going to pass for an old computer, people may just recognize the white version as an Apple I or II clone.

High fidelity stereo speakers with a subwoofer are built into the body of the stand, and the top is where the iPad is docked – modeled to emulate the Apple I’s oversized monitor. Playback is available using Bluetooth or the 3.5mm Stereo Line-in jack, and there’s also a MicroSD slot and a USB port built to play MP3s.
The Bluetooth keyboard is removable and portable, so it can be used without the iStation base if you need to travel light. Special function dials for music control, volume control, slideshow, home, search, and more are installed in the front of the iStation. Both the original iPad and the iPad 2 work with the iStation (iPhone too – though that may look silly), and charge while attached to the dock.
Is your interest piqued? If so, you can get more information or purchase the iStation on the MIC Gadget website, where it retails for $85.90 and is available in limited quantities. I’m not sure why anyone would want to transform the ultra light iPad into a clunky behemoth of a computer from nearly 40 years ago, but with a one-per-household limit, the company is expecting these to sell fast.
