Portable iMainGo XP Speaker System Boosts iPad Audio

|
email

The iMainGo XP offers a built-in, four-speaker system whose housing cleverly doubles as a case for the iPad 2 or original iPad. By combining the speakers and the case the iMain Go XP is able to protect the iPad and pump up the volume of the iPad’s native speakers all while maintaining the device’s portability.
In addition to the case with built-in speakers the iMainGo XP comes with a foldable stand, wall charger, instructions, and two 3.5 mm jacks — one attaches the iPad to the case, and one (thoughtfully) is a spare.

The case isn’t overly complicated to set up. Owners of the iPad 2 will need to take one additional step, popping a shell on the back of their device, in order to ensure a secure fit. Set up took about two minutes. Removing the iPad from the iMain Go XP took a bit of finger strength, but was not overly time consuming or difficult.
According to the instructions, the case needs to charge for 8-10 hours before use, though mine was fully charged in only about 3 hours. The iMainGo XP’s rechargeable Lithium-ion battery should offer around 6 hours of playback per charge.
In addition to the wall charger jack, the iMain Go XP also includes two headphone jacks. While this might seem counterintuitive, since listening through headphones would undoubtedly be similar with or without the case, it is a nice feature to include two jacks instead of just one.

Overall, the iMain Go XP worked well. The speakers produced a clear sound at both low and high volume. There was no distortion at the loudest volume setting. Not only does the case enhance the iPad’s audio, but being able to prop it up securely with the speakers on either side made for a remarkably engaging viewing experience as well.
Purchase the iMain Go XP from Amazon or Target.
What I liked: The iMain Go XP was easy to set up. Even though the stand does not attach to the case, it held the iPad well and offered a range of angles from which the user could view the iPad.
What I didn’t like: The case added additional bulk, while it isn’t unreasonably heavy for everything that it houses, I don’t think I would want to keep the iMainGo XP on all the time.
To buy or not to buy: At around $120, (or a bit less if you shop around) the iMainGo XP offers an affordable portable speaker system for the iPad.
