iPad 2 ‘Dust’ Reportedly Linked to Chinese Factory Blast

Last week’s explosion at the Ri Teng Computer Accessory Co. factory in Shanghai, owned by Pegatron Corp., injured a total of 61 employees. The China Labor Watch has announced that the cause was the ignition of aluminum dust that is produced when polishing iPad cases.
“Combustible” dust was also the reason for the Foxconn explosion, which happened back in May. That incident killed three factory employees and injured 15 others.
Apple is currently investigating the plant. “We are working closely with Pegatron to understand the cause of this accident,” said Carolyn Wu, Apple spokeswoman. “Our hearts go out to the people who were hurt in Songjiang.” Pegatron Chief Financial Officer Charles Lin couldn’t be reached to comment.
According to an announcement by the Sonjiang city government on December 17th, local authorities in area have also begun an investigation into the incident at Ri Teng, but no further information has been obtained in the case.
