Nokia Lumia 800 battery complaints flood in - iPhone 4S owners, you're not alone
Do you like this story?
Indeed, subscribers to Nokia's own support forums have, perhaps, been the most vocal with their disappointment. Posting under the name mkr10001, one user says that even when not in use, the battery of the Lumia 800 loses its charge rapidly:
"I had it charged last night and when I got up in the morning it was down to 35 per cent from just sitting there," he said.
"It might have been updating email but that shouldn't kill the battery like that. I don't use it that much during the day but it seems to go down really fast. I'm currently at 47 per cent and it estimates 1 hour left..."
Another user, Arkiliknam, has similar woes:
"I have the exact same issue," he says. "Fully charge over night, by the time I get to work in the morning its down almost 20 per cent, and I don't use it at all for phone calls or music during that time. By the time I get home in the evening, half the time its already out of battery. I may make/receive a couple of calls a day for a few minutes, nothing crazy, and I haven't had a chance to set up Zune on it, but don't think it'll be much use with these issues."
He also found out that it wasn't just a faulty phone:
"I replaced the handset yesterday for a brand new one, and it has exactly the same issue."
Nokia did release a quick software update that it claimed would help, but Arkiliknam hasn't seen any change:
"I also downloaded the update on both handsets, and it didn't seem to improve life at all for either.
"I really love the phone," he adds. "But there is something seriously wrong with the battery. Hopefully this gets resolved sooner rather than later."
It's a sentiment shared by zeduffman:
"I would class my day as 7am to 11pm, and my Lumia has no chance of making that unless I switch all the radios off and don't use it for anything," he posts.
Thankfully, Nokia has now acknowledged that there might be an issue, with some speculating that it is a bug in Location Services. It has released the following statement:
"We understand that some people have expressed concerns about battery life on the Nokia Lumia 800. Early investigations show that the majority of people are enjoying the full Nokia Lumia experience without any problems," it says.
However, for those who are experiencing issues, the company will be addressing them with further software patches:
"A software update in early December will include improvements to power efficiency, while a second update in early January introduces further enhancements to battery life and battery charging. Both are planned updates and will be made available via Zune. We recommend that anyone who still has concerns contact local Nokia care representatives at their earliest convenience."
Even Pocket-lint has had some battery issues with its Nokia Lumia 800, but we're still happy that it's one of the best, if not the best, Windows Phone 7 handsets out there.
