Help Sleepy Mole and Teddy Find a Place to Nap in Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day

Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day, from developer Ginger Whale, is the choose-your-path tale of a poor mole who has been is awakened in the middle of a nap and driven from his home by construction workers.
Throughout the course of the story, Sleepy Mole digs his way to a new home, encountering a variety of animal homes that are not quite right for him. Mr. Otter’s home is much too wet, Mrs. Skunk’s home is too smelly, and Mr. Earthworm worries that Sleepy Mole might crave a midnight snack. Children control which direction Sleepy Mole digs, so the animals that he stumbles upon will be different with each read through.

Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day is a simple story, without built-in narration. It’s the perfect bedtime tale, with soothing music, a variety of adorable animals, and sweet illustrations. While Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day is missing some of the bells and whistles that you might find in other story apps, it has a charm all its own.

Thanks to some clever choose-your-own-path interactivity, the story is never the same twice. Different arrows lead to different animals, and there are 16 in total, plus eight different endings. The app uses a dig animation to show Sleepy Mole progressing from place to place, and it is enchanting to find a new animal every time the story is read.

What I liked: This is a gorgeously illustrated story, and even after several playthroughs, I still hadn’t found all of the available animals. Discovering new animals is a lot of fun, and children will love the novelty of a new story each time the app is opened.

What I didn’t like: There was no narration available, so younger children won’t be able to explore this app on their own.
To buy or not to buy: Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day, much like Ginger Whale’s other offering, The Greebley Greebley, encourages children to get involved in the action while telling a sweet, uplifting story. This is a must have bedtime tale.
