Halogen

After playing RocketHand’s new iPad Game, “Halogen,” I finally realize how much I had been craving a mix of Air Hockey, Break Out and Galaga with the force field from Yar’s Revenge thrown into the mix… OK so maybe the thought never even crossed my mind before, but now that the game is here, I gotta say, it is awesome!

You control an air hockey style paddle with one finger and hit pucks at little pixelated enemy ships while dodging enemy fire and hiding behind a forcefield. It’s a perfect formula for classic arcade goodness. There are three modes: a single player main mode with 16 levels and bosses, an infinite mode (pretty self explanatory) and a 2 player mode which is essentially Air Hockey on one iPad – a cool little extra.

The game also features OpenFeint support for achievements and leader boards, as well as the ability to practice levels and hone your skills. If there’s any one thing I’d have loved to see (but I guess I can wait for the sequel) it would be some cool power-ups. Hopefully RocketHand is working on a sequel as I write this.

I definitely can’t recommend “Halogen” enough. It’s a really fun game that I can easily see myself going back to again and again. It’s a little more expensive than the average app store game at $5.99, but it’s well worth it for the level of fun you’re getting.
