Gameloft to Begin In-Flight iPad Game Rentals

The next time you take a flight on Australian airline Jetstar, you may be able to enjoy some in-flight entertainment in the form of iPad games. Gameloft, a publisher of popular digital and social games, will be releasing a lineup of 12 pre-loaded games on iPads available to passengers on Jetstar flights.
Gameloft’s new program will begin in December, and will include five titles initially: Real Football, Shrek Kart, Avatar, UNO, and N.O.V.A.: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance.
Seven more titles will be added during the first quarter of 2012, including GT Racing: Motor Academy, Brain Challenge, Blokus, Ironman 2, Let’s Golf 2, The Settlers, and Asphalt 5.
“Jetstar is proud to be the first airline in the world to entertain its customers with cutting-edge iPad technology revolutionizing the in-flight entertainment experience for its customers,” said Bruce Buchanan, Jetstar Group Chief Executive Officer.
The new in-flight entertainment program will begin on select Jetstar flights, including domestic, trans-Tasman and short-haul international flights between Australia and New Zealand. Passengers on a flight that is longer than two hours will have the option to rent an iPad, equipped with games, for A$10 to A$15 per flight. There’s no word yet on when this program might be rolled out to other airlines, but if it proves to be successful, it’s likely other airlines will adopt the technology.
