Battle Nations for iPhone and iPad – App Review
Do you like this story?
App Name: Battle Nations
Version Reviewed: 1.0
Category: Games
Developer: Z2Live, Inc
Price: Free
Score:
We all have those friends who are into Farmville. I know several people whose updates on Facebook I’ve had to hide because of it. What is it about planting crops and managing animals that has led to an entire generation losing days and weeks of their lives?
I have never actually played Farmville (I’m not lying about this because I’m embarrassed) but I think I might actually understand the force behind the addiction after playing Battle Nations for the first time this week. This game is paced to provide excitement, interaction with friends, and the right amount of explosives.
From BattleNations.com:
Take command of the elite Imperial Army as you expand and secure the empire. Gather precious resources and build a thriving nation to power your machine of war. Train your troops and battle the attacking rebel forces for dominance of the land.Features Include:
- Robust Story Driven Campaign: Join the ranks of the Imperial Army and fight your way through over 130 missions
- Strategic turn-based combat: Command dozens of unique troops and vehicles in battle
- Real-time PvP Battles: Queue up and battle other Battle Nations players from around the world for prizes
- PvP Invasions: Fight with Friends and invade their empire or help a friend in need and repel an attack
- Base Construction: Build a network of structures to support and protect your empire
- Resource Management: Find, gather and refine precious resources to fuel your army
What I liked: The game is well designed and the tutorial at the beginning is easy to understand. I was up and playing very quickly and I knew what was going on. The game is not overly simple, but I credit the designers in making it seem easy and fun. It is also a “manly” game. While I wouldn’t touch Farmville with a 10 foot pole, I can handle shooting things and blowing things up. Between the content and the really nice design, I feel this game is going to be quite popular.
What I didn’t like: As with most freemium games, you can play this without spending any actual money. However, you are going to miss out on some of the features and everything will take a lot longer to do. You can buy additional nanopods as an in-app purchase, which allow actions you take in the game to move more quickly and/or allows you to purchase items instead of using earned gold. I think there is a little too much reliance on these nanopods for this game which means you are likely to get stuck for days at a time without them. Otherwise, this game has a great look and is very fun to play!
To buy or not to buy: Since it is free you should definitely try this out. Just be careful not to break the bank buying nanopods!
