Arrested Development to return as Netflix exclusive

Arrested Development to return as Netflix exclusive. Home Cinema, Streaming, Netflix 0

Back in March, Pocket-lint told you how Netflix was looking to take on the likes of HBO with exclusive, original programming, and that idea has now produced some juicy details; by the way of a return for the hilarious cult US show Arrested Development.
Originally aired on Fox in the States, the new episodes will hit Netflix streamers exclusively in 2013.
The show, created by Mitchell Hurwitz, followed the trials of the dysfunctional Bluth family. It was narrated by Ron Howard and made household names out of some of its stars including Michael Cera and Jason Bateman.
Netflix announced the news via Twitter following Hurwitz's hints last month that an Arrested Development film was still in progress and that a series of 10 episodes were also being developed.
Netflix apparently beat off competition such as Hulu and Showtime for the rights and signals the video on demand company's huge ambitions ahead of its UK launch early next year.
In the US Netflix's customer base is around 24 million. However, the prospect of being able to offer programming that cannot be seen elsewhere may be a big enough lure to see the number of Netflix users grow significantly.
Netflix recently signed an exclusive Pay TV deal with Lionsgate for its UK content as well as talking to both MGM and ITV.
