Will Apple Lose Its Cool In 2012?

The hype of Apple’s sleek line of gadgets has been strong for the past couple of years. With the addition of the iPad, the company is more popular than ever. The iconic white logo sticker that comes with every device adorns more than just Volkswagens and Volvos these days. But how long can the popularity last?
Tech writer Brian Deagon of Investor’s Business Daily wrote an interesting opinion piece about the future of some of the bigger companies in the industry and he believes that Apple has seen its heyday.
In Deagon’s mind, Apple is losing its cool as of now.  He says the Samsung Galaxy is cooler and Android is eating iOS’s popularity.
I disagree. Apple has proven itself to be at the forefront of technology for a long time. With the advent of the iPod, hundreds of companies came out with MP3 players to compete, only to be outsold by Apple’s music storage device. The iPhone alone may not outsell all phones using an Android-based operating system, but the phone itself outsells most others on the market on a model-by-model basis. The iPad has been the number one selling tablet since it first made its appearance in 2010. Apple is so cool that it wears sunglasses indoors, but, not in a jerk sort of way.
It is true that Apple TV 2 didn’t revolutionize the set-top box industry, nor did the MacBook Air cause the laptop industry to crumble at the feet of Apple. But the company knows what it is doing and knows how to keep itself relevant. The iPhone has been around since 2007, but because Apple keeps redesigning it and adding new technology, it increases in popularity instead of becoming an old hat.
I believe that the company will continue to redesign its current technology while trailblazing what will become the “next big thing.” There have been rumors for a while about a new television set from Apple. The company has been submitting patents for facial recognition, movement recognition and three-dimensional output like crazy lately. Any one of these things could be the upcoming toy that Apple fans will drool over.
There is no way to know for sure what the public will think about Apple by the end of 2012. It may be that the next new gadget will outshine Apple’s popularity and the company will no longer be able to sit at the “cool kids” table, but I think the company’s fans, you know the ones who stand in line for hours for an upgrade, collect outdated computers and cry when the CEO passes away, will keep growing bigger and will never let the Apple rot.
