Fisher Price KidTough portable DVR pictures and hands-on

Fisher Price KidTough portable DVR pictures and hands-on. Home Cinema, CES2012, Fisher Price, Kids Computers, Toys, DVRs 0
Vegas isn't really a kid friendly place. Sure, there is a guy that's dressed as Mickey Mouse that will quite happily pose for a quick photo with youngsters for a couple of bucks but he also smells quite heavily of whiskey and is apparently more than able to sort party-goers out with "disco-mints".
But that doesn't mean that CES has forgotten the little 'uns. Far from it, there's plenty of new kit for the kids on show including Fisher Price's KidTough portable DVR.
Packing 512MB of RAM that is upgradeable with microSD (up to 32GB), the KidTough sits in a dock with video-in ports and will record any action displayed on your TV. So, it can grab action from a set-top box, a DVD or Blu-ray or just direct from the aerial.
There is an option to set recording times up to 24 hours in advance and you'll get 2 hours playback from a 4 hour charge. It is charging as it's docked, so it should be ready to go once you've loaded it up with kid friendly content.
The display is a 3.5-inch QVGA (320x240) touchscreen one that, whilst not the sharpest screen on show at CES by any stretch of the imagination, did seem to hold up well in the unnatural light of a Vegas hotel convention centre.
The buttons on board are nice and big and would be easy for even a very young child to control and the sound is okay out of the stereo speakers. You can, of course, plug some headphones in as well.
For $150 we think this is a cracking little device. It goes on sale in the States in May - it should hit the UK later on this year.
