Apple Drives More Web Traffic Than eBay and Wal-Mart in November

comScoreLike many of you, I did a good portion of my holiday shopping online. Not only did it let me easily do comparison shopping and look for the best deals but it allowed me to do so from the comfort of my couch.
This kind of convenience is a welcome time-saver when we already have lives that are too busy to manage! Shopping online has other benefits as well. You are no longer limited by your geography and the stores in your area. Those living in smaller communities and remote locations have the same options available with regards to stores and products and will no longer be at the mercy of products being in stock at a single source.
The latest report from comScore agrees, adding that holiday shopping seemed to really kick off in November. The report also showed that topping the list of online stores was Apple, with iTunes and the company’s website seeing 79.2 million unique visitors in November alone. This compares to eBay and WalMart who were at 72.1 million and 58.5 million unique visitors respectively.
Other retail giants were left in the dust with the likes of Best Buy seeing only 36.5 million unique visitors and Sears trailing at 31 million. Online toy stores such as Toys R Us, Lego and Disney also did well with each site seeing increases in traffic over the same period from 2010.
Bargain shoppers were as active online as they are in-store with approximately 1 in 4 retail site visitors also hitting up a coupon site such as RetailMeNot.com or Groupon. This is helpful information for online retailers who are considering whether to offer promotions and in deciding where they should be advertising.
The good news for those who did the actual shopping, the success of these sites should translate into continued support and improvements for the online shopping experience.
comScore, Inc. bills themselves as “a global leader in measuring the digital world and preferred source of digital business analytics.”
