Top Ten iPad Games for 2011

Number 10 of 10 Scrabble for iPad:
SCRABBLE for iPad – $9.99

For individuals who have kept up with my application reviews and posts know that this is my favourite game on the App Store. The reason this application’s quality is so amazing is because it did one thing correct, it made the application just for the iPad. This allows the developers to focus only on the iPad app and allows it to excel in it. The Scrabble application had an HD quality interface and allows up to 25 people to play. This is an astronomical amount of people playing one game. You can even play in party mode which allows you to play with up to four people directly on the same iPad. What’s a party without music?Scrabble has learned that and now has the capability of controlling iTunes straight from the application. This application is essential for every iPad user, five stars!

Scrabble for iPad is an remarkable game that makes the classic board game better digitally. The five gameplay modes are simply amazing from the single player to the multiplayer to the Words with Friends connect, and the brand new party mode. The interface is beautifully designed, and super simple to use, plus it’s a much better experience than running the iPhone version on the iPad. (AppAdvice)
Number 9 of 10 Glow Hockey 2 HD for iPad:
Glow Hockey 2 HD – $1.99
For those who remember, we featured the Glow Hockey app on our list for the best iPad applications available on the App Store. Glow Hockey 2 HD brings high quality air hockey to your iPad device. The application brings you the game wrapped in a colour glowing interface. Want to play with friends? If you happened to catch on to the consistency of this post, then I’m sure you guessed that you can play with friends through WIFI, right? Well you’re right! The game also allows you to play over Bluetooth as well. Have a friend without an iPad who’s sitting next to you, staring at how amazing the app is? Bring them along too because you can both play together in a two player game, on one single iPad! Check out this app today on the App Store.
Don’t expect the game to break barriers and bring the genre to new levels. Instead, enjoy it for what it is: a great air hockey game. (SlideToPlay)
Number 8 of 10 Fruit Ninja HD for iPad:
Fruit Ninja HD – $2.99

The objective is simple. Use up to eight fingers to slice, dice and cut up fruit as it appears on the screen. The game is available in multiple player. Multiplayer allows you to go head to head with others to see who will become the Fruit Ninja. As you continue with game play, you can unlock secret levels, modes, items and surprises. The new update also brings GameCenter to the application, this allows you to share game play even more.
Developed by Halfbrick Studios, Fruit Ninja HD is a funny, quick game for the iPad that combines two ideal game qualities: It’s easy to learn and fun to master. (MacWorld)

Angry Birds – $0.99
Angry Birds is the popular iOS application where you attack the green pigs who took Angry Birds’ eggs. The game has been featured on each of our top ten lists if the system has the game available. The original Angry Birds has never failed to bring the best out of the game. There are some updates and new games, including Rio, that included too many advertisements, but the original still is the favourite for many. Do you think you can beat all 240 levels? Download Angry Birds today to prove it!
Angry Birds HD features nice graphics, and cannot be more simple to play: grab the bird sitting in the slingshot, aim, choose the intensity of your throw, and release the bird. Easy. The game doesn’t come with any tunes, but the sound effects are hilarious (see video below). It also features 120 levels, and supports the Crystal service from Chillingo (online player profile, ability to add other players to a list of friends, cloud-based storage for saving achievements and game histories). Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD – $6.99
I love racing games, they are easy to learn and I almost always win them. This application adds a whole new dimension to racing games on the iPad. Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD adds a new boost of adrenaline to racing not the device. While even the application states that you get the best experience of the game by playing on the iPad 2, Asphalt 6 still is an amazing racing game on the original iPad. The application may not have the biggest collection of cars that I have seen on a racing application, but it surely has the best. Just like with the other games we have featured in this post, there is support for multiplayer game play.Asphalt 6 allows you to play the application with up to six players. The application also has an amazing list of locations that you can show off your cars in. Download this application today to take advantage of it!
Speeding along midnight blue streets with the adrenaline pumping is pretty much a fun, wild ride. Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD, currently available in the App Store for $6.99, is well recommended to fans of racing games, especially arcade racers. (iPadModo)
TETRIS® for iPad – $7.99
The TETRIS application for iPad is great. The HD quality enhances the gaming experience. For TETRIS fanatics, you will feel right at home with the never ending mode that allows you to have control over when the game ends. The gaming experience is also enhanced with a gaming D-Pad, this allows gaming to be fun and easier. There is a common problem arising with theapplication not opening with the newest update, however, individuals who can use the application will understand how amazing this app is. A new update will fix the problem that some are facing.
At $7.99 this is a premium priced app but for anyone that want’s to get their hands on the ultimate in classic puzzle games it’s worth every penny. Don’t get me wrong there are things missing. Considering the size of the iPad it would be nice if there was a 2 player version on the single iPad and it’s also missing online leader boards so that you can compare your skills to the rest of the world. Perhaps they will come in future releases but regardless of that they are bonus features and should prevent you from buy this classic piece of nostalgia. (Touch Reviews)

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars HD – $9.99
The first thing that attracted me to add this application to this list is the gaming quality. The quality looks too amazing to be an application for game play. The interface signals that you’re watching a movie than playing a game. However, the game isn’t just a pretty face,Grand Theft Auto is a fun and addicting game. Usually I recommend applications for people who already love the game maybe online or in a board game, however, I feel personally that this game is perfect for anyone from active Grand Theft players to first time players.
Finally, I should make clear that the iPad edition of Chinatown Wars is different from the iPhone-iPod Touch edition. It’s exactly the same game, but exists as a different app, meaning that if you want the game on both your iPod Touch and your iPad, you’re going to have to pay twice. Not cool. Why couldn’t it have been a universal app? (Wired)

FarmVille by Zynga – Free

The popular game online, especially on Facebook, has now made it to your iOS device. Farmville is an application that allows you to keep up with your farm, planting plants and harvesting, through live real time. Because of the continuity of the application, old users will feel right at home with being able to use their existing accounts on the device and new users can make new accounts from theapplication. The Farmville application allows you to do all of the features you are able to do online, from the application. The Farmville application also gives you a step up by providing iOS only items available for those who play from the application. Individuals who share an iPad or hold multiple accounts and log in to all of them from the application as well. It is easy to say that this is one of the best gaming apps on the App Store to date.
Is it slightly disgusting to think that 1 out of every 100 people around the world plays Farmville? Absolutely, but it does show the huge growth potential of the casual gaming industry. If 60 million people will tend to a farm every day, who’s to say that 70 million people wouldn’t do something a bit more entertaining? Anyways, be sure to pick up the iPad compatible version of Farville today for the cool price of free. It may suck all of your time away, but you’re not one of those folks who thinks that time is money, right? (148Apps)

UNO™ HD – $4.99
The UNO game application is perfect for any UNO lover. The application allows you to enjoy the game the way it is meant to be played, as a multiplayer game. The iPad UNO application allows users to play with up to four individuals over WIFI. However, this application also adds another multiplayer feature that is rare for tablet games, you can play with up to four players on a single iPad device, at the same time. This makes the application the ultimate party application. If you happen to not have friends with iPads, then you can meet new ones over multiplayer online using Gameloft. The game rewards active players with the ability to unlock fun levels on the game. So throw those UNO cards out, gather your friends and enjoy this application today!
UNO is one of the most famous card games around. Everyone from your grandmother to your little sister has played this timeless classic and now, thanks to Gameloft, you can take it with you wherever you go. (MacWorld)

Labyrinth 2 HD – $7.99
This is a great update to the original Labyrinth app. This update adds HD to the application. Labyrinth 2 HD is still, however, the same game play as the original. Try to avoid the holes as you skirt around the obstacles. The new update allows you to create your own levels, play the levels you have created and original ones with people over WIFI, you can also play over Bluetooth and download and rate levels created by others. This allows you to always provide a challenge with a new type of level each time. There are some individuals who say that the update made the app prone to crashes and bugs, however all in all, thisapplication is a great mind challenge game for anyone.
Labyrinth 2 HD a beast of a game, boasting extraordinary value and a score of enhancements that make it a worthwhile iPad game even if a serious technical issue mars the experience. (Pocket Gamer)
