Latest Top Five Games

Wednesday is Big Game Night in the App Store, as developers release their top games and try to make it into Apple's featured lists. Tonight is one of the best nights for new iOS games in a while, with the release of the sci-fi shooter Epoch and Gameloft's Gangstar Rio. Check out the Kiwi links below, then come back to buy these games when they launch in the U.S. App Store at 8pm Pacific.
Epoch
Epoch looks like a Shadowgun or Gears of War-style cover shooter, but it's actually something quite different. Focusing solely on the shootouts, Epoch allows you to move between different areas of the screen to get the best shot on your opponent. With each gun battle, you'll unlock more credits and gear. Unreal Engine polish and a unique take on shooting gallery games makes Epoch well worth considering.
Price: $5.99 US

Gangstar Rio: City of Saints
For Gangstar's third iOS game, the mayhem moves to South America. The open-world gameplay hasn't changed much-- it's still inspired by GTA 3, and you can still jack any car or pummel any pedestrian. But a few minor improvements, like a leveling-up system for your character and indoor environments, add slightly more depth to this installment.

Asteroids: Gunner
We had the first hands-on preview of Asteroids: Gunner this week, and starting tonight, you'll get your chance to play it. This freemium remake of an arcade classic benefits from fifty levels full of space rocks, each containing gold for you to collect and power-ups to supercharge your ship. There's lots locked behind pay-gates, but you can still pay nothing and get a few hours of entertainment with this game.

Evertales
Evertales hands-on developer video
Evertales, published by Crescent Moon Games and developed by Thunder Game Works, is a side-scroller with a fractured fairy-tale sense of humor. You can play as one of three not-so-valiant heroes: An aging knight, a pompous elf, or a senile old wizard. The graphics look outstanding, which we've come to expect from Crescent Moon Games, but the comic tone seems to be a bit of a departure from their more serious RPGs.

Ninja Throw
Tonight Chillingo and Clickgamer, two publishers responsible for some of the most popular games on the App Store (including Angry Birds, Cut The Rope, and Helsing's Fire), will release their new physics puzzler Ninja Throw. Though there are plenty of physics puzzlers available, especially of the "launching" variety, Ninja Throw offers a few twists, like meditative monks who will keep your ninja stars from hitting their targets with mind powers.
