iPad 3 and the PC
With the hype for the iPad 3 and Apple’s tablet in general, are they to blame for the drop in PC sales? The popularity of Apple’s iPad tablet is indeed being blamed for the drop in PC sales over the past two years. If they are to blame, then so be it. Apple has successfully targeted and stolen a majority of the casual user market. We strongly believe this is the market segment that is attributed to the loss in PC sales. The iPad is sleek, lightweight, fun to use, and mobile offering a long battery life. You’ve seen their marketing campaigns comparing Apple’s spokesperson who is youthful and trendy to the PC who is old and nerdy. Casual users are rapidly adopting the personality that Apple has created for their products.
Consumers want not only the latest tech, but also mobility and ease. The iPad arguably captivates those aspects better even with its strongest limitations like the lack of flash capability.
What should be in the iPad 3 to increase mobility and ease?
For the iPad 3 to be truly broken away and innovative from that of the PC, it needs to integrate a few changes. Apple claims the iPad to be a step past the PC experience but it still requires linking to a Mac or PC to perform a lot of crucial tasks. We would like to see the iPad 3 be able to retrieve your music and movies from iTunes without having to plug it into the PC. Backups, activation and updates still require tethered syncing as well. You probably agree that for the iPad 3 to be a truly post PC device that it needs to address these limitations.
Recent news also stated the Apple is working on a massive data center that is nearly complete. What we hope is that they are looking to integrate cloud computing for the iPad 3. Currently, users are required to make a choice upfront about how much storage their tablet will have. Marketers love to be able to compare numbers when showcasing specs amongst devices. With cloud computing you wouldn’t have to worry about comparing numbers like 8, 16, or 32.
We’re not sure this sort of technology will make it in time for the iPad 3 but we sure hope so. Think of the unlimited capabilities of being able to handle all the media and software you want without filling up your data storage so quickly with your music and a couple of movies.
It’s all about the user experience, and the users want more!Apple has paved the way and remains at the top of innovation. They will surely continue pioneering technologies that will remind you exactly why you love your Apple devices.
