Google putting Wave and Knol out of action
Do you like this story?
In a blog post that describes Spring cleaning of Google's current range, the company announced it would be getting rid of a long list of services. Google Bookmarks lists will be gone, as will friend connect, Google Gears, Google Wave, search timeline, Knol and Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal.
While some may not be quite as distraught over the loss of say the Renewable Energy element of things, we imagine there are a fair few who took advantage of the likes of Google Wave and Gears. Not enough clearly as both will be out of action, Gears on December 1st and Wave on January 31st, which will become read only.
The closures are part of a lengthy list of Spring shutdowns by Google. Things like Aardvark and Sidewiki are also going to take a hit.
The big G however is not planning on still taking a few risks, pointing out it has "never been afraid to try big, bold things, and that won’t change. We’ll continue to take risks on interesting new technologies with a lot of potential. But by targeting our resources more effectively, we can focus on building world-changing products with a truly beautiful user experience."
Keep 'em coming Google, we love the experiments.
What do you think? Should Google shut them down? Let us know in the comments below
